Decarboxylation A tenor sax feature with combo (trumpet, alto sax, bari sax, trombone, rhythm), in a medium swing style. Contains solos for all instruments. Chords are fairly simple and straightforward, navigable by an intermediate-level group. The Diels-Alder Reaction A light, easy jazz waltz floating between one-beat and walking style. For guitar, piano, bass, and drums, with solos adaptable for any instrument. Fairly easy chord changes; intermediate level. L’Epoisses A French-style waltz, scored for a group resembling a French street band: accordion, violin, clarinet, trombone, and rhythm section. A lot of polyphonic interaction between the parts, and solos for multiple players. Something different! Pleonasm A fast, aggressive jazz-rock big band chart containing a lot of full-band soli work on the head. Multiple meter changes and challenging chord progressions make for an advanced-level piece for university or professional band. Taco Belle’s Canon A Caribbean odyssey through multiple Latin styles, tracing the development of a theme based on the famous "Pachelbel's Canon in D". We travel through Calypso, Bossa Nova, Salsa, and a gospel finale, complete with organ. Scored for a scaled-down big band plus steel drums and Latin percussion (2 flute, 2 alto, 2 tenor, 2 trumpet, 2 trombone, 2 steel drums, piano, bass, drums, 6 Latin percussion). This can be played by a standard big band with the extra wind players playing the additional percussion parts, and the steel drums can be played on a synthesizer if necessary. Evening A leisurely evening stroll in a relaxed mood, for a cappella SATB. Changes between chorale and swing feel. Mainly four-part harmony, staying primarily in one key with a few brief modulations. The harmony is fairly rich but manageable, with smooth voice leading. Includes an open solo section for any voice, with ensemble accompaniment. Also includes a soli section with written-out scat. |
